I have always preferred a light natural look from my makeup, my skin to still look like my skin with a healthy glow. So why did I break with tradition and try a full coverage foundation with a matte finish? I was honestly intrigued by all the skin benefits the new Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Foundation promised I just had to see for myself! I have been using and love the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation for some time so it had a lot to live up, I had very high expectations!
The Flawless Finish Foundation promises an all day, full coverage lightweight natural matte finish (this was my main concern too matte and the finish will age me I really do not suit a heavy matte look!). Other benefits promised include:
- Reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 22% (after 8 weeks)
- Moisturises skin for up 24 hours
- Reduces the appearance of pores
- Protects against everyday pollutants
- Transfer resistant, sweat proof, water proof
I used the shade matching tool on the Charlotte Tilbury website and based on the information I provided I was matched to two shades, 3 cool and 4 neutral – hmmm! It is tricky matching online (I was too impatient to wait for it to go into stores!) and after some debating with myself I opted for 4 neutral, a risk as I am usually a shade 3 in Charlotte Tilbury foundations and concealers – fortunately it worked well! I would recommend going to a counter if it is possible to get colour matched, with 44 shades in the range for every skin tone there is plenty of choice! It is worth noting that five minutes after application the true colour of the foundation will be shown on your skin.
The packaging feels so luxurious! an elegant glass bottle in the signature Charlotte Tilbury Rose Gold. The foundation has a pump dispenser which is perfect to avoid waste as you really do not need to use much to achieve a full coverage. I find one pump gives me the perfect amount, it is buildable and easy to achieve your preferred finish.
The foundation has a slightly thicker texture than Light Wonder, I use half a pump at a time as it does set quite quickly, I would suggest buffing immediately (or as my toddler likes to sing round and rounding when I apply it!). I prefer to use a brush as my sponge absorbed the foundation completely! The foundation is easy to blend and I always make sure I go under my eyes as it does help to disguise my under eye bags and circles.
I expected the foundation to feel heavy and was pleasantly surprised by how light and comfortable it felt on my skin. Although it is full coverage it still looks natural, my skin but better! blurring and disguising my problem areas to leave an even skin tone. I have been using the Flawless Foundation for two months and the more I use it the more I love it, it has stayed on through our summer heatwaves and autumn downpours, it doesn’t move at all! It removes easily at the end of the day and leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. I find now the weather has turned cooler I am reaching for this foundation more to provide extra protection, it’s working its magic!
I have used various primers with Flawless Finish and personally prefer to use one with some light luminosity to add a subtle glow under the foundation. I can’t completely get away from it I do like a bit of glow!
If I could change one thing about this foundation it would be the scent. It does wear off quite quickly although it may irritate those that are sensitive to smell.
I am so pleased I went against my normal finish and gave this foundation a try. I love the finish I can achieve quickly and easily and find I wear less makeup with such a beautiful base.
